All Technology Self-Destructs

Obviously, bad technology self destructs because people stop using it.  But good technology self destructs just as surely, because any technology, properly applied, will eventually make itself obsolete.

Lemma: any time you see a piece of technology remaining unchanged for a long period of time, a good question to ask is “What are the socioeconomic conditions that are preventing this from becoming obsolete?

(Hint #1 – There always are – see above.)

(Hint #2 – Technology includes intangibles, like models, methods, systems, and institutions, as well as gadgets and materials.)
