Why the Promise of Technology is Broken

April 18, 2012

A person making widgets by hand can make ten widgets per day.  A widget-making machine is invented, and a person and widget-making machine working together can make ten thousand widgets per day.  Does this mean we can spend less time making widgets and more time doing other things, or does it mean that we can make a lot more widgets?
