The Promise of Technology

May 27, 2012

The promise of technology is: more results for less effort, more leisure for less work. If the promise of technology were being fulfilled, then as technology advanced people would continually have more, work less, and enjoy more leisure time. Yet this is demonstrably not the case as a general trend. Technology is continually advancing, yet the need to “contribute to society” becomes no less demanding, the workday gets no shorter, and those who are “unemployed” (i.e. unused) are considered to be in a state of despair and distress.

My question to you is why is the promise of technology not being fulfilled?
