Meets Expectations

August 25, 2013

…is about the most forgettable thing you can say about a person, company, or organization. This is what you should aim for if your goal is to not disappoint.

But what if your goal is to be memorable? Or remarkable? Or to change minds, perceptions, attitudes, beliefs? That’s where the power of the unexpected comes into its own.

Sometimes meeting certain expectations is necessary in order to get noticed. Give them what they expect, or they won’t even realize that you’re there. And sometimes meeting expectations is exactly what keeps you from being noticed, or from having an impact. Meet the expectations and the expectations won’t change.

Consciously choosing when and where and how and why to meet expectations, or to not, is a task for your better judgment.
