You Have Your Own Media Company

August 29, 2013

You have your own printing press (blog), radio station (podcast), and television station (Youtube channel). What are you going to say? What are you going to put out into the world?

You will have an audience to the extent that you deserve one. When you tweet or post on Facebook, are you sharing something that people will want to see? Something that will help them, delight them, make their lives better? If you are, keep doing it. If you’re not, keep practicing. Choose a set of standards and stick to them. Ask, is it True? Helpful? Inspiring? Necessary? Kind? Three out of five should be the minimum acceptable.

Writing for an audience doesn’t mean writing what you think other people will want to read. It means writing things that YOU think are worth reading, and at the same time raising your standards.

When the teacher is ready, the students will appear.
